Costa Blanca
|
Many people thinks that the Costa Blanca owes its name to its beautiful white beaches, but in reality is it the gorgeous blossom of the almond trees (in the month of February) because of which this region got its name. In combination with an ever shining sun it seemed to the passing ships as if the coast were covered with a white layer. And that is how the name came into existence: "Costa Blanca", white coast !!!
The Costa Blanca runs from Denia to Pilar de la Horadada on the coastline and from Villena to Orihuela in the inland.
The Costa Blanca is especially popular with tourists for its fantastic climate with the amount of hours of sun, in Summer as well as in Winter. At Christmas the temperature can easily rise to over 20 degrees centigrade. The region has indeed most hours of sunshine in Europe: It is to be enjoyed 300 (!!) days per year. This favourable climate is thus the most important reason why the Costa Blanca is so liked by the Europeans, above all by pensioners.
The climate at the Costa Blanca is also the healthiest of Europe, according to an investigation of the World Health Organisation. It is said to relieve for instance symptoms of asthma and rheuma
